The KISTERS Flying Fox is a portable towing and positioning system that uses a built-in 12V electric motor and a wireless remote control. It features speed control and an LED display that indicates the traversing distance, signal strength, and the battery levels of both the drive unit and the hand control. The optional synthetic rope can be attached to any structure on either riverbank, allowing for quick and easy deployment. Traversing can be performed incrementally or continuously, making the Flying Fox the perfect solution for ADCP deployment.
The KISTERS Flying Fox is a lightweight, fully portable design, perfect for nar-row streams or channels, and eliminating the need for expensive on-site structures that may be exposed. All components are housed in a sturdy, weatherproof case containing the traveller, hand control, mains and 12V power supplies for on-site charging of the hand control and traveller batteries (batteries not supplied; see the user manual for details). The case is protected against vandalism and flood damage. The synthetic rope is secured in place using two locking pins to ensure that expensive equipment is not lost downstream during gauging.
The particularly large climbing angle of up to 45 degrees facilitates the set-up even at points where, for example, there is a height difference between the right and the left riverbank. A safety lock prevents the tow vehicle from separating from the rope.
The Flying Fox is controlled via a robust weatherproof remote control with backlit LC display. The LCD shows transect speed, position as distance from the starting point on the rope, wireless signal strength, voltage and current draw while operating, battery voltage, and low battery alarm (visual and acoustic).
